All Things Killeen with Mayor Riakos Adams

This is All Things Killeen, and I’m your host, Gary Emmert. Mayor Riakos Adams is back with us to break down what’s new, what’s changing, and what’s ahead for our city. From community initiatives to upcoming events and key decisions at City Hall, we’ve got a full conversation lined up — and we’re glad you’re along for the ride.

As spring settles in across Central Texas, Killeen is gearing up for a season full of activity, connection, and community pride. One of the highlights is the return of Youth Summer Soccer, a program that brings families together and keeps kids active all summer long. Children ages 3 to 15 can join the league, build new skills, and make lasting friendships. Practices begin the week of July 6 at Lions Club Park, and registration is already open through the Parks & Recreation Department. It’s one of the city’s most popular youth programs — and a great way to kick off the summer.

Another meaningful tradition returns next month: the Fallen Heroes 5K on Saturday, May 16. This annual run at the Andy K. Wells Hike & Bike Trail gives our community a chance to honor the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. Early registration is open through May 11 for $25, and the first 300 runners will receive a commemorative t‑shirt. It’s a powerful morning of remembrance, unity, and gratitude.

Downtown Killeen is also buzzing with energy thanks to the Spring Night Market, happening every Friday through May 15. Local vendors, live music, and a relaxed evening atmosphere make it a perfect place to shop small and enjoy the heart of the city. A few showers may pop up, but the market will continue unless severe weather develops — so residents are encouraged to come out, explore, and support local businesses.

And of course, one of Killeen’s biggest annual traditions is right around the corner: Rodeo Killeen, returning May 14–16, 2026. Three nights of PRCA rodeo action will bring world‑class competitors, thrilling events, and the unmistakable spirit of the West to our community. Ticket information is coming soon, along with details on special community nights and giveaways. It’s a celebration of heritage, excitement, and the Texas way of life.

Before we wrap, mark your calendars for Celebrate Killeen on April 25 — a day filled with bold flavors, live entertainment, and a fireworks finale that lights up the night sky. It’s one of the city’s signature events and a chance for residents to come together and enjoy everything that makes Killeen shine.

From youth sports to community remembrance, from downtown markets to rodeo traditions, this season is full of opportunities to get involved and stay connected. And today, Mayor Adams walks us through how these events reflect the city’s commitment to growth, engagement, and community spirit.
