Killeen Animal Services is inviting residents to open their homes — and their hearts — during the city’s limited‑time “Spring Into Love” free adoption event. The month‑long initiative, which began March 25 and runs through April 24, is designed to ease shelter capacity while helping dogs and cats find the loving families they deserve.
Shelter staff say spring is one of the busiest times of the year, and adoption events like this play a crucial role in creating space for incoming animals. By waiving fees, the city hopes to remove barriers for families ready to welcome a new companion while also supporting local animal‑welfare efforts.
All adopted pets receive essential care before going home. Dogs are vaccinated with DAPP and Bordetella and given a general dewormer, while cats receive an FVRCP vaccination and dewormer, ensuring each animal starts off healthy and protected.
Residents interested in adopting can visit the Killeen Animal Services Shelter at 3118 Commerce Drive. The shelter is open noon to 4 p.m. on Monday, Friday, and Saturday, and noon to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. Staff encourage potential adopters to stop by, meet the animals in person, and find the perfect match for their home and lifestyle.
For those wanting to browse available pets or review adoption requirements ahead of time, more information is available at the city’s Animal Services webpage.
As the event continues through April 24, Killeen Animal Services hopes the community will take advantage of this opportunity to “spring into love” — and give a shelter pet a fresh start.
