The sound of determination, discipline, and pure musical joy will fill McLane Stadium this Saturday as thirty‑one high school marching bands from across the region converge on Baylor University for the Bands of America Waco Regional Championship, presented by Yamaha and Sweetwater. For thousands of young performers, it’s one of the most anticipated stages of the fall — a place where months of rehearsal meet the thrill of performing under stadium lights.
Bands of America Championships have long been considered the nation’s premier marching band events, celebrating both musical excellence and the artistry of visual performance. The program is part of Music for All, a nonprofit organization recognized as one of the country’s most influential voices in music education. Their mission is rooted in a simple truth: music in our schools matters. According to the 2022 National Arts Education Status Report, more than 27.3 million students in grades 1–12 participate in school music programs nationwide. This fall alone, an estimated 181,000 students will take the field at Bands of America events.
A Community Effort
This year’s Waco Regional Championship is hosted by the Waco High School Choirs, who will assist with facilities and event operations throughout the day. Their support helps ensure a seamless experience for visiting bands, staff, and spectators. Following the preliminary competition, audiences will be treated to an exhibition performance by the Baylor University Golden Wave Band, a highlight that showcases collegiate musicianship at its finest.
Event Schedule
Gates open at 6:30 AM for preliminary performances and again at 6:30 PM for the evening finals. A full schedule of participating bands is available at marching.musicforall.org/waco-regional.
A panel of nationally recognized music educators and marching band experts will evaluate each performance. The top 12 scoring bands will advance to finals, where one ensemble will be named regional champion by night’s end.
Tickets & Admission
All tickets for the event are digital, and the championship is fully cashless. Spectators can purchase full‑day passes, finals tickets, and student group tickets online at marching.musicforall.org. Children 10 and under receive free general admission seating.
A Celebration of Music Education
For the students stepping onto the field, Saturday is more than a competition — it’s a celebration of teamwork, creativity, and the transformative power of music education. From early‑morning rehearsals to late‑night bus rides, these young musicians have poured heart and discipline into their craft. The Bands of America Waco Regional Championship gives them a stage worthy of that commitment.
As the stadium fills and the first notes ring out, Central Texas will once again be reminded of the talent, passion, and promise marching through our schools.
