KNCT Weather Desk – Hot Conditions Continue to Grip the Region

Dangerously hot conditions continue to grip the region, setting the tone for another week where the heat itself becomes the headline. North Texas remains under an Extreme Heat Warning, while Central Texas faces a Heat Advisory, underscoring just how intense this August stretch has become. The message is simple and urgent: stay hydrated, stay shaded, and stay mindful of how quickly heat‑related illnesses can develop.

Even as the heat dominates, there’s a subtle shift on the horizon. Unseasonably hot temperatures will remain the primary concern, but a weak front sliding into the northeast on Thursday may spark a few thunderstorms. Any storms that do form could bring gusty winds and frequent lightning, offering brief relief but also posing their own hazards. For most of the region, though, the pattern holds steady—hot, dry, and demanding respect.

Looking ahead to the weekend, temperatures will surge well into the triple digits, with little to no rain expected. Outdoor plans will require extra caution: frequent water breaks, light clothing, and an eye on those who are most vulnerable. Extreme heat affects everyone, but children, older adults, outdoor workers, and those without reliable cooling face the greatest risk. Staying Weather‑Ready means checking in on neighbors, keeping pets cool, and knowing the signs of heat exhaustion before they escalate.

Farther south, in the Austin and San Antonio area, the story remains much the same. Mostly clear skies, hot temperatures, and a southerly breeze continue today. Across South‑Central Texas, daily highs in the upper 90s to around 105°F and heat index values reaching 100°F to 113°F will stretch through the week. Overnight temperatures offer little relief, staying mild to warm and keeping heat stress elevated.

As Texas summer heat continues its relentless hold this August, take the steps that keep you safe, steady, and hydrated.
