As summer settles over Central Texas, families across Killeen are finding something special waiting for them inside the city’s two public libraries. The Main Library on Church Avenue and the Copper Mountain Branch on W.S. Young Drive have released their June and July activity schedules — and together they paint a picture of a season built around creativity, learning, and community connection.
At the Killeen Main Library, Wednesdays begin with Story Time and Stay & Play, offering little ones ages 0–6 a morning of stories, crafts, and hands‑on fun. A second Story Time in the afternoon opens the door for children up to age 10. Thursdays bring the ever‑popular Block Party, where DUPLO and LEGO bricks turn imagination into architecture. Saturdays offer a double feature: Mini‑Maker Morning, a come‑and‑go crafting program for all ages, and Cricut Creations, where teens and adults can design custom bookmarks using acrylic blanks and permanent vinyl.

Across town, the Copper Mountain Branch Library is just as lively. Mondays begin with Little Play Date, followed by an afternoon Block Party. Tuesdays are filled with Story Time sessions for ages 0–5 and 6–10, plus family Game Time in the afternoon. Wednesdays mirror the Main Library with Story Time and Block Party, while Thursdays bring Baby Block Party for the youngest builders and Teen Time for ages 11–17. Saturdays offer Craft‑to‑Noon for all ages and a special summer Junk Journaling workshop for teens and adults.

Unearth a Story: Summer Reading Club
Running June 1 through August 1, the Summer Reading Club invites children and families to “Unearth a Story.” Registration is open through July 18, and participants who complete their reading goals will earn prizes. It’s a simple, joyful way to keep young minds active during the long summer months.
A Summer Built for Community
Whether it’s a child discovering a new story, a teen creating something original, or a family spending time together at a weekend event, Killeen’s libraries are offering a summer filled with possibility. These programs reflect the heart of the community — welcoming, creative, and committed to giving families a place to learn, play, and grow.
