Cold, Breezy Start Gives Way to a Rapid Warm‑Up

A cold and breezy day is unfolding across the region, keeping temperatures locked in the upper 40s to lower 50s this afternoon. The combination of dry air and persistent north winds will also elevate the risk of grass fires, so extra caution is encouraged outdoors. By tonight, temperatures fall sharply, with most areas dipping to or below freezing.

A major pattern shift arrives midweek. As high pressure strengthens overhead, warmer air surges back into the region. Above‑normal temperatures return by Wednesday, and by the weekend, highs are expected to soar into the 90s—an early taste of summer on the way.

Austin and San Antonio

Across the Austin and San Antonio corridor, only thin high‑level clouds are expected today, but cold north winds will make for a brisk morning. Wind chill values in the 20s and 30s will gradually improve as winds ease to around 10 mph late in the day.

Fire weather remains a serious concern. Strong winds—gusting 40 to 45 mph at times—paired with very low humidity will create critical fire weather conditions. Humidity will show little recovery this morning before dropping again to 10–20 percent this afternoon. Any fires that start could spread quickly and be difficult to control. Residents should avoid any outdoor activities that could accidentally spark a wildfire.

Temperatures remain well below average today into early Tuesday, with a brief freeze possible in parts of the Hill Country, the I‑35 Corridor, and portions of the Coastal Prairies by Tuesday morning. A warming trend begins Wednesday, returning temperatures to near normal before pushing well above normal by Friday and into the weekend. The next seven days look dry, with no rain expected.
