The Impact of Camp SHiEld
For over five years, Camp SHiEld has been at the forefront of a mission to empower Women Veterans. By listening to the voices of these women and the concerns of their male counterparts, along with input from Veteran supporters, partner organizations, and donors, Camp SHiEld has identified a glaring gap in resources specifically tailored for Women Veterans. These resources, created by Women Veterans for Women Veterans, address the emotional, social, and physical wounds that often go unseen yet have profound impacts on their quality of life.
The conversations held within the community have brought to light the significant challenges faced by Women Veterans. The lack of targeted resources has contributed to emotional instability, social isolation, and a generally lower quality of life. These issues are not just isolated to individuals but resonate through communities across the nation.
The unique experiences of Women Veterans necessitate unique solutions. Camp SHiEld has responded to this need by developing programs and services that specifically address the emotional, social, and physical wounds of Women Veterans. These programs are designed to foster healing, resilience, and a sense of community among Women Veterans, enabling them to lead fulfilling lives.
By creating a supportive environment where Women Veterans can share their experiences and access resources tailored to their needs, Camp SHiEld is making a tangible difference. The organization’s efforts are not only helping Women Veterans heal but also empowering them to reengage with their communities and lead healthier, more stable lives.
Camp SHiEld is a division of After Military Service (AMS), a 501(c)3 organization founded in July 2017. The mission of AMS is to support the personal and professional success of Veterans and their families after military service. AMS works to increase resiliency, life satisfaction, and empowerment for our nationโs military families. This mission aligns perfectly with the goals of Camp SHiEld, creating a strong foundation for addressing the unique needs of Women Veterans.

As Camp SHiEld continues to evolve and expand its programs, the organization remains committed to its core mission of empowering Women Veterans. The work being done today is laying the foundation for a future where Women Veterans have the resources and support they need to thrive.
Camp SHiEld’s dedication to addressing the unique needs of Women Veterans is creating lasting change. By listening, responding, and providing tailored resources, the organization is paving the way for a more inclusive and supportive environment for all Veterans.

The Fund is composed of money deposited under the Texas Government Code, the Texas Transportation Code, and Texas Parks and Wildlife Code. The Commission is authorized to use funds appropriated to the Fund to make reimbursement grants addressing the needs of Texas veterans and their families, as determined through veteran needs assessment studies. All grant awards are made through a competitive grant selection process:
The FVA Advisory Committee reviews all eligible grant applications and makes award recommendations to the Commission.
The Commission awards reimbursement grants. Awards decisions by the Commission are final. Once grant awards are determined by the Commission, grants are administered by the staff of the Fund for Veteransโ Assistance. Through the Fund, the Commission has awarded over $313 Million Dollars in more than 1,400 reimbursement grants since 2009.
