Early Voting Begins October 19 as Temple Residents Consider Proposition A

Early voting opens Monday, October 19, giving Temple residents their first opportunity to weigh in on Proposition A, a bond measure that will appear on the November 3, 2026 ballot. The proposition asks voters whether the City of Temple should issue up to $15 million in general obligation bonds to fund a new Sammons Community Center.

For many in Temple, Sammons has long been a cornerstone of community life — a place where seniors gather, families celebrate milestones, and residents take part in health, wellness, and recreational programs. The proposed project aims to build on that legacy with a modern, flexible facility designed to serve multiple generations.

A Vision for a Modern Community Hub

The conceptual plan outlines a center that could include:

  • A flexible event hall
  • Classrooms and multipurpose learning spaces
  • Fitness and recreation areas
  • Outdoor gathering spaces
  • Enhanced parking
  • Improved accessibility

These features are intended to support existing Sammons programming while expanding opportunities for rentals, community events, senior activities, and wellness programs. City leaders say the goal is to create a space that meets today’s needs while preparing for future growth.
