The City of Temple is once again inviting the community to honor the men and women who have worn the uniform of the United States Armed Forces. Applications are now open for the 2026 Hometown Hero Banner Program, a tribute that recognizes those who are currently serving, have served, or have given their lives in service to our nation. This annual effort transforms the heart of Temple into a visual celebration of courage, sacrifice, and hometown pride.

Through Friday, August 28, residents may submit applications to create personalized banners featuring the faces of Temple’s Hometown Heroes. Once completed, these banners will be proudly displayed on light poles throughout Downtown Temple — including the Santa Fe Plaza and along the Santa Fe Market Trail — offering a powerful reminder of the individuals whose service has shaped both our community and our country.

Each banner carries a $50 fee, and eligibility is open to individuals currently serving in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard, as well as veterans who were honorably discharged or gave their life in service. To participate, the honoree must be a current or former permanent resident of Temple, or have an immediate family member — a spouse, parent, legal guardian, grandparent, child, or sibling — who resides in Temple today.

The Hometown Hero Banner Program continues to grow as a cherished tradition, connecting families, honoring legacies, and reminding all who pass through downtown that service is woven into the fabric of Temple. As applications open for the 2026 display, the city encourages residents to take part in celebrating the heroes who call Temple home.
