As America celebrates its 250th birthday, the Texas Veterans Commission continues its mission to ensure that the men and women who helped preserve our nation’s freedom achieve the quality of life they have earned. Yesterday’s episode of The Voice of Texas Veterans with Julia Conner brought that mission into sharp focus, offering listeners a guided tour through the many departments of TVC and the specialists who serve Texas Veterans every day.
Julia opened the program with the Claims Department — the busiest and most sought‑after division within TVC. Claims Benefit Advisors, all Veterans themselves, bring deep experience to their work supporting fellow Veterans in navigating disability benefits and entitlements. As the agency designated by the State of Texas to represent Veterans before the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, TVC stands beside Veterans through every step of filing VA disability claims and throughout the appeals process. Their work is hands‑on, personal, and rooted in service.
From there, Julia turned to the Texas Veterans Health Care Advocacy team, a group dedicated to helping Veterans access and navigate the Veterans Health Administration. These advocates work collaboratively to resolve challenges and improve access to VHA services — ensuring Veterans receive the care, support, and follow‑through they deserve.
Employment Services took the spotlight next. Veterans Career Advisors provide one‑on‑one career support, including job coaching, interview preparation, and resume development. Whether a Veteran is entering the workforce for the first time or transitioning into a new career, TVC’s employment specialists stand ready to help chart the path forward.
And for Veterans with an entrepreneurial spark, Julia introduced the Veteran Entrepreneur Program — a team devoted to supporting Veteran‑owned businesses at every stage of development. From business plans and financing strategies to marketing, government contracting, and personalized consulting, VEP offers expert guidance and essential resources to help Veterans launch, grow, and strengthen their businesses. Their work connects entrepreneurs with specialists across the business landscape, including partners like the SBA, SCORE, and SBDC, all committed to Veteran success.
With so much information shared in this episode, Julia emphasized one essential takeaway: tvc.texas.gov. This is the central hub for everything covered in the program — Claims, Health Care Advocacy, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and more. It’s the starting point for Veterans seeking support, answers, or a new direction.
