I14 Sports Report for 2 July

Yesterday’s episode of the I14 Sports Report with Dan Hull opened with a heartfelt moment, as Dan extended his best wishes to Alijawon White, the respected Shoemaker coach who is departing Central Texas to become the next Boys Coordinator and Track Coach in Jarrell. He will also be the varsity football secondary coach. His leadership, steady presence, and commitment to young athletes have left a lasting mark on the Grey Wolves community. As Dan noted, Coach White’s influence will be missed on and off the field, but his next chapter promises new opportunities and continued success.

Before shifting into tournament coverage, Dan spotlighted an important upcoming event for families across the region: the Frost Titans Wrestling Orientation and Parent/Coach Meeting. Parents, athletes, coaches, and community members are invited to learn more about the program, which welcomes wrestlers ages 5 and up and focuses on Folkstyle wrestling, the same discipline used at the high‑school level. The Frost Titans are proudly affiliated with USA Wrestling, and the orientation will be held July 29 and July 30 at 6 p.m. at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, 206 W Fowler Ave in Killeen. The goal is simple—providing young athletes with experienced coaching and a strong foundation in one of the most disciplined sports around.

From there, the show shifted to the gridiron, where Dan recapped the final results from the 2026 Texas 7‑on‑7 State Tournament. With the summer sun blazing and competition fierce across College Station, teams from across the state wrapped up their tournament runs, including Shoemaker and Harker Heights. Dan highlighted the grit, growth, and determination shown by area athletes as they closed out their summer slate of competition.

Beyond the tournament, it’s a quiet stretch across Central Texas sports. Schools and athletic programs are taking a well‑earned pause as communities celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday. With campuses closed and coaches catching their breath, the sports calendar has eased for just a moment.

But the break won’t last long.

Dan reminded listeners that football season begins next month, (along with the new school season) and the I14 Sports Report will return next week with updates from around the district as teams gear up for the 2026 season. Rosters will tighten, depth charts will take shape, and the countdown to Friday night lights will officially begin.

As always, Dan closed the show with the message that has become a signature of the I14 Sports Report:

“Take care of each other and take care of yourselves.”
