Central Texas Well Owners Invited to Test Water and Attend Results Meeting July 1–2

Residents of Eastland, Erath, Hamilton, Hood and Somervell counties are invited to participate in a regional private well‑water screening hosted by the Texas Well Owner Network (TWON) on July 1, followed by a results meeting and educational program on July 2 in Stephenville.

For 20 years, TWON has helped Texans who rely on household wells better understand groundwater resources, water quality, and well maintenance. Program coordinator Joel Pigg, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, said the screenings are designed to empower well owners with practical knowledge.

“The TWON program was established to help well owners become familiar with Texas groundwater resources, septic system maintenance, well maintenance and construction, and water quality and treatment,” Pigg said. “It allows them to learn more about how to improve and protect their community water resources.”

Water Screening Details

Residents may submit as many samples as they wish at $15 per sample. Each sample will be screened for:

  • Total coliform bacteria
  • E. coli
  • Nitrate‑nitrogen
  • Arsenic
  • Salinity

Well owners are encouraged to bring samples from every well on their property, including water taken before and after any treatment systems.

Sample Drop‑Off Locations — July 1 (8:30–11 a.m.)

  • Eastland County — AgriLife Extension Office, 102 N. Lamar, Suite 307, Eastland
  • Erath County — AgriLife Extension Office, 100 W. Washington St., Stephenville
  • Hamilton County — AgriLife Extension Office, 101 E. Henry, Hamilton
  • Hood County — Hood County Annex 1, Room 22, 1410 W. Pearl St., Granbury
  • Somervell County — AgriLife Extension Office, 1405 Texas Drive, Glen Rose

Results Meeting — July 2 (10 a.m.–Noon)

The follow‑up meeting will be held at the Erath County Annex, 222 E. College St., Stephenville. Attendees will receive their results and learn about:

  • Water well basics
  • Water quality
  • Interpretation of sample findings
  • Corrective measures for identified issues

Pigg emphasized the importance of attending the results session to fully understand findings and learn how to address potential problems.

Sampling Instructions

Participants should follow the official sampling guidelines at twon.tamu.edu, and complete a water sample form for each submission.
