Copperas Cove Senior Center Working Toward Reopening After Plumbing Damage
The Copperas Cove Senior Center is working through repairs and restoration after a major plumbing failure on April 8th forced the temporary closure of the facility. A severe sewage backup caused significant damage throughout the building, and a plumber later confirmed the issue stemmed from a large amount of inappropriate items being flushed into the system.
City and HCCAA officials acknowledge how disruptive the closure has been for seniors who rely on the center for meals, social connection, and daily routines. They also noted that updates on the Senior Center’s Facebook page could have been more timely and committed to improving communication moving forward.
Despite the building closure, HCCAA continued providing meals to participants, ensuring no interruption to this essential service.
Repairs are now underway as HCCAA works closely with the insurance provider and contractors to restore the facility. The agency anticipates reopening the Senior Center on Monday, May 4th, though some areas of the building may remain closed until all restoration work is complete.
The City of Copperas Cove owns the facility at 2400 Walker Place Blvd., while HCCAA manages and operates the Senior Center’s programs. Both organizations expressed appreciation for the community’s patience as they work to safely bring services back online.
Residents with questions or concerns may contact the Copperas Cove Senior Center at (254) 547‑6022.
That brings us to the close of today’s Senior Spotlight. Thank you for spending part of your morning with us as we continue highlighting the voices, services, and stories that strengthen our senior community. Remember — staying informed is one of the best ways to stay engaged. We’ll be back next week with more conversations and updates that matter. Until then, take care, stay connected, and have a wonderful day.
