As winter weather continues to affect Central Texas, the City of Harker Heights is adjusting its schedule to keep both residents and staff safe. City officials announced that all non‑essential offices will open on a delayed schedule tomorrow, with City Hall and other administrative departments set to begin operations at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28.

While administrative offices pause for a slower start, the city’s essential services remain fully staffed. Emergency responders, along with the Streets and Water Departments, will continue operating without interruption to ensure public safety and maintain critical infrastructure during the cold stretch.

For residents who may need a warm place to stay overnight, the VFW/City of Harker Heights Warming Center will reopen its doors at 10 p.m. tonight. Located at 201 VFW Drive, the center offers a safe, heated environment for anyone needing shelter from the cold. Community members who wish to support the effort can volunteer by contacting the VFW directly at 254‑213‑3350.

City leaders say they will continue monitoring conditions and will provide updates if further adjustments are needed. For now, the focus remains on safety, preparedness, and ensuring that residents have access to the resources they need as temperatures drop.
