Across the Lone Star State, communities are participating in Operation Greenlight—a nationwide initiative aimed at honoring U.S. military veterans by illuminating buildings and homes with green lights during the week leading up to Veterans Day. From November 4 through November 11, residents, businesses, and government offices are encouraged to display green lighting as a visible symbol of appreciation for those who have served in the armed forces.
In Texas, local governments and organizations have embraced the campaign, with landmarks and municipal buildings glowing green in solidarity. The initiative not only serves as a tribute to veterans’ service and sacrifice but also raises awareness of the challenges many face when transitioning back to civilian life.
Operation Greenlight is supported by the National Association of Counties and various state departments, including the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, which helped launch the campaign nationally. While participation is voluntary, the gesture has gained momentum in recent years, with more communities joining in to show support.
Texans are also encouraged to share photos of their green-lit homes and businesses on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenlight, helping spread the message of gratitude and recognition across digital platforms.
As Veterans Day approaches, Operation Greenlight offers a simple yet powerful way for individuals and communities to express their respect and support for those who have served in uniform.
