The Copperas Cove ISD Board of Trustees took several actions Monday evening aimed at maintaining fiscal responsibility and enhancing educational resources across the district.
As part of its ongoing commitment to maximizing taxpayer value, the board approved the renewal of the district’s participation in 16 purchasing cooperatives. These cooperatives are designed to help school districts stretch public funds by leveraging group purchasing power. Trustees also approved joining the 1Government Procurement Alliance, expanding CCISD’s access to cost-effective purchasing options.
“We are committed to taking great care in our purchasing efforts and ensuring our community’s tax dollars are used in a manner most beneficial to students,” said Superintendent Dr. Brent Hawkins. “This approval ensures we can continue to make smart, value-driven decisions for our district.”
In a move to support the district’s technology infrastructure, trustees also approved the purchase of 60 smart charging carts. These carts will be used with the newly acquired Chromebooks for students, helping to organize, secure, and maintain the devices for daily classroom use.
“This aligns with our updated technology standards,” Dr. Hawkins said. “It protects the investment our community has made in student devices and ensures every classroom has reliable, ready-to-use technology.”
The meeting also included a visit from Copperas Cove Mayor Dan Yancey, who presented a proclamation recognizing October as National Principal Appreciation Month. Trustees further approved an out-of-state travel request for the Pride of Cove Band directors to attend the Midwest Clinic International Orchestra Conference in Chicago—an opportunity to support the band’s continued growth in both marching and concert performance.
During the public comment portion of the meeting, one citizen requested the board consider a policy regarding emotional support animals in schools. Another community member expressed appreciation for the district’s transparency in communicating details related to Bond 2025.
The next CCISD Board of Trustees workshop is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday, November 17, followed by the regular board meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18. Both meetings will be held at the District Service & Training Center on South Main Street. Agendas are posted three business days in advance at the center and online at http://www.CCISD.com/SchoolBoard.
