South-Central Texas is waking up to a quick warm-up today, with high temperatures expected to climb into the mid 80s to mid 90s. Along the I-35 corridor—including Austin and San Antonio—afternoon highs will range from 90 to 94°F, with some spots in the Rio Grande Plains pushing toward 97°F. Breezy conditions will accompany the heat, with gusts reaching 20 to 25 mph, contributing to an elevated wildfire threat, especially west of I-35.

Tuesday brings a shift in the pattern as a cold front moves through, dropping temperatures by 5 to 10 degrees and reinforcing dry, gusty conditions. This will expand the wildfire risk across much of the region, so outdoor burning is discouraged.

Later in the week, rain chances begin to increase as the next storm system approaches from the west. While some strong storms may develop Friday into Saturday—with small hail, gusty winds, and heavy downpours—the overall threat for severe weather remains low at this time.

🌎 National Outlook

Across the country, an active weather pattern is unfolding. A low pressure system is bringing locally heavy rain and gusty winds to the Northeast today. Meanwhile, colder, unsettled conditions will spread across the northern tier states through midweek. In contrast, the southern Plains—including Texas—are experiencing unseasonable October warmth, with temperatures running 10 to 20 degrees above normal.

Mountain snow in the northern Rockies is tapering off, and dry weather continues across the Southwest. Rain chances will gradually decrease across Florida as a trailing cold front weakens.
