Unseasonably warm and rain-free weather is expected to persist across Central Texas and much of the southern U.S. into early October. Daily high temperatures will run approximately 5 to 10 degrees above seasonal norms, with most areas experiencing highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s and overnight lows settling in the 60s.

In the Austin and San Antonio region, skies remain mostly sunny, with Tuesday’s highs forecast to range from the mid 80s to mid 90s—about five degrees above the September 30th average.

KNCT Meteorologist Bill Hecke reported Tuesday morning that skies were partly to mostly cloudy, with the bulk of cloud coverage concentrated to the west and northwest. While radar detected some returns across the area, Hecke noted that cloud bases were high and vertical lift was insufficient to support precipitation. “It’s just cloud cover and no active rainfall,” Hecke said, adding that a slight chance of sprinkles remains in the western zones. Winds are light and variable, shifting to a northeasterly flow at 5 to 10 mph as skies clear later in the day. Dry conditions are expected to hold through the week.

Nationally, the Weather Prediction Center highlighted multiple weather systems affecting other regions. Tropical moisture associated with IMELDA is bringing showers and thunderstorms to the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic coasts. The storm is forecast to remain offshore as it tracks northward and then northeastward into the Atlantic. Moisture and upper-level impulses will continue to generate rainfall along parts of the Florida coast through Wednesday evening.

Meanwhile, a cold front moving through the Northwest is producing rain across Northern California and the Northern Intermountain Region. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to extend into the Great Basin and Northern/Central Plains through midweek. A second front will arrive along the Pacific Northwest coast Tuesday evening, bringing additional rain through Wednesday.
