Texans now have a powerful new way to help protect the state’s natural treasures—right from the palm of their hand. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has unveiled Tip411, a cutting-edge reporting system launched through Operation Game Thief (OGT), the state’s long-standing wildlife crime-stoppers program. This new platform makes it faster, easier, and completely anonymous to report violations related to fishing, wildlife, and boating.
Whether you’re deep in the woods, out on the water, or scrolling at home, Tip411 empowers citizens to report suspicious activity in seconds—no names, no hassle.
“Protecting Texas wildlife and our natural resources is a shared responsibility,” said Col. Ron VanderRoest, TPWD Law Enforcement Director. “This new system makes it easier than ever for the public to speak up and make a difference while staying completely anonymous.”
How It Works
- Mobile App: Download the free Operation Game Thief App for iOS or Android to submit tips, photos, and videos directly to Texas Game Wardens.
- Text Line: Send a message to 847411 (Tip411) using the keyword “TXOGT” followed by your tip and any media.
- Online Form: Submit anonymous tips via the Operation Game Thief website.
- Phone Hotline: Call 1-800-792-GAME (4263) anytime—available 24/7.
Illegal hunting and fishing strip Texas of its rich biodiversity and damage ecosystems that support both wildlife and people. Public tips have proven essential in catching violators who might otherwise go unnoticed. In recent years, citizen reports have led to:
- Hundreds of convictions
- Recovery of illegally taken wildlife
- Disruption of unlawful commercial trade
OGT offers rewards of up to $1,000 for tips that result in a conviction, reinforcing the value of community vigilance.
“If you see something, say something,” VanderRoest added. “It could be the one tip that stops a poacher or saves someone from injury on the water. You spot it, we stop it.”
Founded in 1981, Operation Game Thief has helped secure over 600 convictions and paid out nearly $195,000 in rewards. Texans who report violations are not just protecting wildlife—they’re preserving a legacy of conservation for future generations.
As part of TPWD’s Law Enforcement Division, Texas Game Wardens enforce laws that safeguard natural resources and public safety. Their mission includes:
- Ensuring responsible hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation
- Conducting search and rescue operations during natural disasters
- Building community trust through education and enforcement
