In the latest edition of All Things Killeen, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Mayor Debbie Nash-King to talk about what’s happening in the heart of the city this month. Our conversation kicked off with excitement surrounding a beloved community event making its return.
Maker Day, Hosted by the Killeen Public Library

The event promises a full day of hands-on activities for all ages, from arts and crafts to interactive exhibits. In addition to the fun, the Public Works team will be on-site collecting books, magazines, and paper products for recycling—making it a celebration of both imagination and environmental stewardship.
Free Pet Vaccines

Mark your calendars for Monday, September 29, when Killeen Animal Services will host a free drive-thru vaccine clinic for cats and dogs at the Killeen Special Events Center (3301 South WS Young Drive) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Vaccines will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis and include:
- DAPPv for dogs

Domestic Violence Awareness Walk

Join us for a powerful and uplifting morning as we come together to support victims and survivors of domestic violence. This free community event is all about raising awareness, showing solidarity, and making a difference—one step at a time.
Don’t forget to wear PURPLE to show your support for domestic violence awareness!
National Night Out

Come together to build safer, stronger neighborhoods during this year’s National Night Out (NNO)—a nationwide initiative that promotes unity, crime prevention, and positive relationships between communities and law enforcement.
On the evening of October 7, residents across Killeen are encouraged to:
- Lock their doors
- Turn on porch lights
- Step outside and connect with neighbors
Whether you’re a longtime resident or new to the block, NNO is the perfect chance to foster meaningful connections and reinforce a shared commitment to safety. Communities that know each other are more likely to look out for one another—and report suspicious activity.
Ways to Celebrate:
- Host a block party
- Fire up the grill for a cookout
- Organize an ice cream social
- Plan a group activity
- Or simply greet your neighbors with a smile and handshake
By participating, you’re sending a powerful message that your neighborhood stands united against crime.
Fall Fest

Get ready for an evening packed with thrills and autumn cheer! From haunted houses and pumpkin patches to costume contests, hayrides, bounce houses, giveaways, and free candy galore—there’s something for everyone. Costumes are highly encouraged, and best of all, no registration is needed. Just come ready to celebrate!
