Central Texas entrepreneurs will have a front-row seat to opportunity at the 2025 Small Business Connections Conference, taking place Wednesday, August 27 at the Palmer Events Center from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Now in its third year, the conference is hosted by the City of Austin’s Small and Minority Business Resources Department (SMBR), in collaboration with the Economic Development and Financial Services departments. This year’s theme, “Connecting Your Business to Austin’s Future,” reflects a bold vision for economic inclusion as the city prepares for $25 billion in infrastructure investment over the next decade.

“The conference represents a significant investment in the continued growth and sustainability of our area’s small and certified business community,” said Edward Campos, SMBR Director. “Connecting underserved businesses with resources, knowledge and information to do business contributes to our community’s long-term success and equitable growth.”

Attendees will gain direct insight into the City’s procurement outlook for 2025 and beyond, with updates on major capital projects such as the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport expansion, the Austin Convention Center redevelopment, Capital Metro’s Project Connect, and other initiatives led by Capital Delivery Services.

“This conference is more than a networking event. It’s a launchpad for local entrepreneurs to rise, lead, and leave their mark on the fabric of our city,” said Anthony Segura, Interim Director of the Economic Development Department. “By breaking down barriers to opportunity and opening doors to meaningful connections with the City, we’re investing in people, neighborhoods, and Austin’s inclusive growth for generations to come.”

Highlights of the Conference Include:

  • City Connections Exhibitor Show: Meet procurement and project staff from City departments, County and State agencies, and regional organizations.
  • Prime Contractor Meetups: Engage with firms currently working on major infrastructure and construction projects.
  • Workshops: Learn about vendor registration, small business certification, commodity codes, and “What Austin Buys.”

For many, the event serves as an on-ramp to government contracting. Business owners can begin the certification and vendor registration process onsite and receive tailored support from technical assistance providers.

“Supporting small businesses through the City’s procurement process isn’t just good policy—it’s how we invest in our community,” said James Scarboro, Chief Procurement Officer for the Financial Services Department. “This event will help businesses gain insight into the procurement process, build meaningful connections, and discover real opportunities.”

The conference is free and open to the public.
