New Store and Community Connect Center Launches Aug. 7

By Gary Emmert

A new chapter in community empowerment begins this Thursday as Heart of Texas Goodwill Industries unveils its latest retail store and Community Connect center in Killeen. The Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. on August 7, marking the official opening of the 24,065-square-foot facility located at 4901 W. Stan Schlueter Loop.

This isn’t just another retail location—it’s a hub for transformation. The new site includes a 4,150-square-foot Community Connect center, offering free education, employment services, and resource navigation to residents across the region. The space will also serve as a meeting and training venue for local businesses and nonprofit organizations, expanding Goodwill’s footprint as a force for economic development and social support.

Shannon Wittmer, President and CEO of Heart of Texas Goodwill Industries, shared:

“This store is more than just retail—it’s a resource hub for our community. Every donation and purchase fuels our mission to strengthen families and build a skilled workforce. We’re proud to grow our mission in Killeen and continue investing in the community.”

The new location has already created 24 local jobs, with additional hiring underway. Both the retail space and Community Connect center will open for business immediately following the ribbon-cutting.

Grand Opening Highlights

  • Ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m.
  • Special gifts and coupons for the first 200 shoppers
  • Complimentary hot dogs from Hot to Tot, winner of Best Killeen Food Truck 2024, starting at 11 a.m. (while supplies last)
  • Prize drawings for an HP laptop and PlayStation 5 for guests visiting the Community Connect
  • Live music and giveaways with Waco 100 and the iHeartMedia team

The center expands Goodwill’s capacity to deliver workforce development, education, and support services in Killeen. Partners like Central Texas College and veteran-focused organizations will use the space to host workshops, events, and community programs.
