This afternoon at 3:30pm, The Voice of Texas Veterans returns to KNCT-FM 91.3 with a timely and empowering episode focused on the Veterans Over 55 program, a Texas Veterans Commission initiative designed to help aging Veterans and their families access the benefits they’ve earned.
Host Julia Conner welcomes Army Veteran Reggie Lewis, an award-winning claims benefits advisor, to discuss the ins and outs of filing disability claims—especially for those who may feel discouraged or unsure about the process.
“The first thing you should always do is reach out to somebody from the Texas Veterans Commission in the claims department,” Lewis advises, emphasizing that help is always available.
One standout tip from today’s show: Veterans or their dependents can file claims even without a DD-214.
“It is the Veterans Administration’s job to gather that DD-214 if the Veteran or spouse doesn’t have it,” Lewis explains—offering reassurance to those who may have hesitated to begin the process.
The Veterans Over 55 program provides free assistance with:
Disability compensation and pension claims
Health care advocacy and mental health support
Education and employment guidance
Burial benefits and survivor support
Entrepreneurial resources for Veterans seeking a new chapter
Whether you’re a Veteran who’s never filed a claim or a surviving spouse unsure of where to begin, today’s episode offers clarity, compassion, and practical advice.
