Today, we extend an invitation—not just an announcement.
After 82 years listed as Missing in Action, 1st Lt. Charles W. ‘Woody’ McCook is finally coming home to Georgetown, Texas. The community will gather on Saturday, August 2nd at 11am at the IOOF Cemetery, where his remains will be laid to rest with full military honors.

Lt. McCook was a Southwestern University graduate, a decorated pilot killed in action during World War II. His bravery saved a fellow airman and earned him the lasting title of American hero.
We invite you to join us—alongside VFW Post 8587, the City of Georgetown, Southwestern University, Gabriels Funeral Home, the U.S. Army, and the Georgetown Police Department—in welcoming Woody home with pride and gratitude.

A motorcycle procession of veterans will begin at 10:15am, winding through the Courthouse Square and Southwestern University before arriving at the cemetery. The public is encouraged to line the route and help create a sea of red, white, and blue. 500 American flags will be distributed in the Square, and 82 full-sized flags will line Highway 29—one for every year Woody was missing.
Following the service, look to the sky for a tribute: a Missing Man Formation Flyover, followed by a special appearance from a B-25 bomber, just like the one Lt. McCook flew.

This is not simply a ceremony—it’s a call to community. Come stand with us, celebrate his legacy, and show that heroes are never forgotten.
Georgetown, let’s welcome Woody home.”
