Fort Davis’ Independence Day celebration is getting a dose of storytelling and Texas-sized humor as beloved broadcaster and folklorist Tumbleweed Smith returns with his one-man show, Outrageous Texans. The performance takes place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, in the Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce building, and best of all—admission is free.

Presented by the Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce, this family-friendly event offers a 30-minute whirlwind of eccentric characters and colorful tales gathered from Smith’s decades behind the microphone. Outrageous Texans draws from his long-running syndicated radio show, The Sound of Texas, which has chronicled the quirks, triumphs, and spirit of ordinary folks across the Lone Star State.

In addition to the afternoon performance, Tumbleweed will lend his distinctive voice to the Saturday morning parade, serving as narrator for the 10 a.m. procession that kicks off a full day of community celebration.

Tumbleweed Smith—born Bob Lewis—has been a mainstay of Fort Davis’ Fourth of July festivities for over a decade, offering both laughter and local color through his storytelling talents. This year brings even more reason to celebrate, as he’s been nominated for induction into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame, a testament to his enduring impact on Texas broadcasting and cultural preservation.

Whether you’re a long-time listener or just discovering his homespun wit, Tumbleweed’s performance promises a window into the soul of Texas—one outrageous story at a time.
