Austin’s vibrant cultural scene is set to shine once again as the 4th Annual Midsummer Festival returns on Saturday, June 7th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the historic Old Bakery & Emporium. Hosted by the Office of Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment, this beloved celebration is free to attend and offers family-friendly fun for all ages.

Honoring the Swedish tradition of Midsommar, the festival brings together music, art, food, and community to mark the Summer Solstice—the longest day of the year. Attendees can enjoy a traditional flower crown-making station, face painting, and lively entertainment, including a DJ set by DJ Boozwa and a performance by Austin’s own The Norrsken Three. The band’s name, which means “Northern Lights” in Swedish, reflects their musical exploration of both traditional and contemporary Swedish and Scandinavian songs.

Food lovers can indulge in traditional Swedish treats and coffee from The Fika Table, an Austin-based bakery specializing in Scandinavian delights. The festival also highlights the daily Swedish tradition of “Fika”, where people take a break from work to connect over coffee and sweets. Guests are encouraged to embrace this tradition by sharing fika moments with neighbors and friends. Mom & Pop’s All Natural Frozen Pops will also be available for those looking for a refreshing treat.

The Old Bakery & Emporium holds a unique connection to Swedish-American culture, having been built in 1876 by Swedish immigrant Charles Lundberg. Today, it stands as a historic landmark that showcases local artisan goods and artwork, while providing insights into Austin’s immigrant history through the Lundberg-Maerki Historical Collection. The annual festival serves as both a celebration of Swedish traditions and a tribute to Austin’s multicultural roots.

With a delightful mix of music, art, food, and history, the Midsummer Festival is an invitation to experience Swedish culture right in the heart of Austin. For more information and to RSVP, visit the Old Bakery & Emporium’s website. Don’t miss out on this joyous summer celebration!
