On May 8, 2025, military service members and veterans in Texas will have a special opportunity to show gratitude to the steadfast individuals who hold their families together—military spouses. Recognized annually, Military Spouse Appreciation Day celebrates the strength, resilience, and unwavering support these spouses provide while their loved ones serve the nation.

Military spouses play a crucial role in maintaining stability at home. Whether navigating deployments, frequent relocations, or the challenges of reintegration, their commitment ensures the well-being of both their families and the broader military community. On average, military families relocate every 2.5 years, facing new expenses, housing transitions, and the need to rebuild their lives in unfamiliar surroundings. Despite these demands, spouses continue to be pillars of strength, often stepping into multiple roles—from single parenting and teaching to leadership and mentorship.
“The military spouse holds the home together while their service member is absent,” said Texas Veterans Commission Executive Director and Army veteran Tom Palladino. “They regularly must act as a single parent, a teacher, a role model, a minister, a confidant, a leader, and an ally for others in the same situation. The strength of a military spouse lies in their ability to adapt and overcome. This is why we give special recognition to those married to military service members and veterans.”
To honor these extraordinary individuals, the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) is offering a downloadable Military Spouse Appreciation Card, featuring the words “Strong. Steady. Selfless.” alongside heartfelt imagery. In addition to the card, TVC has created a special video tribute that service members and veterans can share to express their appreciation.
Both the appreciation card and video can be accessed via TVC’s website: Military Spouse Appreciation Day resources, as well as on TVC’s social media platforms.
Beyond this recognition, resources and benefits supporting military spouses, families, and service members are available through TVC. From education benefits under the Hazlewood Act to advocacy programs, TVC remains committed to enhancing the quality of life for veterans and their families. Military Spouse Appreciation Day is a reminder that while service members answer the call to duty, their spouses answer the call at home—ensuring the fabric of military families remains strong and united. This May 8, let’s take the time to recognize and celebrate their sacrifices.
