Texas’ rich musical heritage is alive and thriving as The Big Squeeze returns for its 19th season, celebrating the next generation of accordion talent. This annual competition, presented by Texas Folklife, highlights the diverse musical traditions that make Texas unique, from Conjunto and Polka to Zydeco and Cajun.
The Big Squeeze is dedicated to supporting and showcasing young accordionists across the state, providing them with a platform to share their artistry and keep Texas’ folk music traditions alive. This year’s competition will feature over 15 talented youth musicians competing for a coveted spot in the finals.

- Semi-Finals: April 26, 2025, at Edinburg Promenade Park Amphitheater in Edinburg, TX.
- Finals: May 17, 2025, at The Bullock Museum in Austin, TX.
Before the semi-finals kick off, attendees can participate in free accordion workshops from 3pm to 5pm, offering a unique opportunity to connect with the art and traditions of accordion music.
The semi-finals in Edinburg will feature the largest group of contestants to date, with performances spanning multiple genres. Following the competition, audiences can enjoy high-energy live performances from:
- The Ybarra Brothers – A dynamic young family band from the Rio Grande Valley, dedicated to preserving and energizing the Conjunto sound.
- La Calma – A Tejano powerhouse known for electrifying performances and crowd-pleasing charisma.
