Free Concert by The Chuck Wagon Gang This Sunday in Belton
Don’t miss the chance to experience the legendary Chuck Wagon Gang as they perform a free concert this Sunday, February 23rd, at 6pm at Trinity Full Gospel Church, located at 810 East 2nd Avenue in Belton (across from the Belton Police Department).

For nearly 90 years, The Chuck Wagon Gang has captivated audiences with their unique blend of Southern, Country, and Bluegrass Gospel, earning a place as one of the most influential groups in Gospel music history. From performing at Carnegie Hall to being inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, The Chuck Wagon Gang’s legacy is unmatched, and their timeless sound continues to inspire future generations.
The group was formed in 1935 by David P. “Dad” Carter, along with his son Ernest (“Jim”) and daughters Lola (“Rose”) and Effie (“Anna”). They started their journey by performing on a local radio station in Lubbock, Texas. In 1936, they moved to WBAP in Fort Worth and adopted the name “The Chuck Wagon Gang.” Their big break came when they became sponsored singers for Bewley Flour, leading to a recording contract with Columbia Records. The group remained with Columbia for 39 years, setting a world record for the longest association with the label until Johnny Mathis surpassed it in 2000.
The Chuck Wagon Gang’s unique blend of Southern, Country, and Bluegrass Gospel music quickly gained popularity. They performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Grand Ole Opry. Their contributions to gospel music earned them a place in the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and the Smithsonian Institution’s classic American recordings.
Current members Shaye Smith, Melissa Kemper, Josh Garner, Nick Poe, and Cody Shaneyfelt are dedicated to honoring the group’s storied history while embracing exciting creative growth ahead.
