Fredericksburg – The National Museum of the Pacific War (NMPW) will honor the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima with a special three-day commemorative event from February 21–23, 2025.

This event aims to pay tribute to those who served and sacrificed during one of the most significant battles of WWII.

The commemoration will feature a variety of activities across the three days:

Day One: Friday, February 21, 2025

  • 340 E Main St, Fredericksburg, TX 78624
  • 11am: Opening Ceremony and Iwo Jima Plaque Dedication (Memorial Courtyard)
  • 11:30am: Reception and following events (Historic Nimitz Ballroom)
  • 6:30pm: Youth Panel: Military Service Today
  • 7:15pm: Screening of “Sands of Iwo Jima”

Day Two: Saturday, February 22, 2025

  • Rockbox Theater, 109 Llano St, Fredericksburg, TX 78624
  • 1pm – 4:30pm: History and Impact of Iwo Jima featuring guest speakers Richard B. Frank, Keil Gentry, Steve McCloud, and Jonathan Parshall
  • 4:30pm – 6pm: Reception
  • 6pm: Concert featuring archival photography accompanied by live original music performed by Montopolis

Day Three: Sunday, February 23, 2025

  • Pacific Combat Zone, 508 E Austin St, Fredericksburg, TX 78624
  • 2pm: Battle Reenactment
  • 2:45pm: Closing Ceremony and Reception
  • 3pm: Book Signing with Steve McCloud and Jonathan Parshall

Founded in 1967, the National Museum of the Pacific War (NMPW) is the only institution in the continental United States dedicated exclusively to telling the story of the Pacific and Asiatic Theaters in World War II.

The museum annually welcomes more than 100,000 visitors, including at least 15,000 students from across the state. Located in downtown Fredericksburg, Texas, the museum features three galleries with more than 55,000 square feet of exhibit space, 40 media installations, approximately 900 artifacts, 15 macro-artifacts, and hundreds of photographs.
