
KILLEEN – In observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, the City of Killeen has announced that its offices will be closed on Monday, January 20th. This includes the Main Library, Copper Mountain Branch Library, the Senior Center, and the Solid Waste Administration Building.
However, the Family Recreation Center will remain open from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., and all trash collection routes will continue without any changes. The Transfer Station will operate from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Killeen Recycling Center will be closed on the holiday, but recycling trailers will be accessible at the rodeo grounds located at 3601 South WS Young Drive.
It’s important to note that all emergency services will continue without any interruption during this period.
The city offices will resume their normal business hours on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
Additionally, there are several events happening in the Killeen area on MLK Day:
- MLK Melanted Market: Celebrate MLK Day with a vibrant marketplace showcasing black-owned businesses and talent at the ECenter Killeen, located at 809 North Gray Street in Killeen, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- MLK Day March (NAACP): Join the community for a march honoring Martin Luther King Jr. throughout the day. The march will begin at 9am, with line-up scheduled for 8:30am. The event will begin at Killeen City Hall in Downtown Killeen and all community members are welcome and encouraged to participate in the march to honor Dr. King.
- LEGO Day with Killeen Public Library: Although scheduled for January 25, this event is a great way to plan ahead for family fun.
Also, Central Texas College will be closed in observance of the holiday.
