In our first monthly discussion of “All Things Killeen,” which airs on the second Monday of each month at 6:15pm on KNCT, Mayor Nash-King goes into detail on her vision of Killeen in 2025.

As we move into 2025, Killeen Mayor Debbie Nash-King is setting an ambitious tone for the city. “We are not going to put any limits on what this city can accomplish together,” she said. This year, her motto for the city is “Killeen Focused.”

Mayor Nash-King will discuss new developments, council priorities, and the progress of the Killeen 2040 Comprehensive Plan during the 2025 State of the City Address. The event is scheduled for January 21st at 2pm at Killeen’s City Hall Council Chamber (101 North College Street). This will be her third address, focusing on the city’s successes, opportunities, and the needs and desires of its citizens.

The Killeen Council recently released a video highlighting a year of progress and success in the city. The video references several topics, including downtown revitalization, major road project updates, and redevelopment. It can be viewed on the City’s YouTube channel here.

Citizens are invited to attend the 2025 State of the City Address in person. The event will also be livestreamed on the city’s website, www.KilleenTexas.gov/CouncilMeetings, and on Spectrum Cable Channel 10. It will be recorded and available for playback on the website at any time. The regularly scheduled council meeting will follow the address at 3pm.

Mayor Nash-King will also highlight all of the wonderful work the various departments in Killeen are doing for everyone in the community. One in particular, the City of Killeen Library is hosting LEGO Day at the Killeen Civic & Conference Center on January 25th from 10am to 3pm. This free event is a chance for kids of all ages to show off their creativity with LEGOs of all shapes and sizes. The city will provide thousands of LEGOs and plenty of workspace for visitors to create whatever they can imagine.

The Family Recreation Center is also offering a New Year fitness incentive where existing members can bring a friend for free until January 17th. For more information, email kpr@killeentexas.gov or call (254) 501-6390.

And if you want to join the Parks and Rec Department, applications for seasonal aquatics positions are now open. If you’re looking for a summer job with good starting pay, flexibility, and certification and leadership opportunities, apply at www.killeentexas.gov/jobs. Positions include lifeguards, pool managers, water safety instructors, and pool cashiers. Applicants must be 16+ to apply.

And finally, The city has kicked off a new program to keep the Killeen City Cemetery a peaceful and respectful resting place. City staff will clear florals, flags, and décor four times a year to preserve the dignity and aesthetics of the memorial grounds. Families will have 30 days to collect their items before they are discarded. Cleanup dates are the third week of January, April, July, and October. Unauthorized items like benches, chairs, glass, and trinkets will be removed. For more details and cemetery rules, visit www.killeentexas.gov/cemetery or call (254) 200-7947.
