Temple – The City of Temple has announced a temporary closure of South 22nd Street starting Monday, December 16, 2024. This closure is part of the Knob Creek Trunk Sewer Phase 1 construction project and is expected to last until February 2025.

During this period, South 22nd Street will be closed to thru traffic. Only local traffic will be granted access, and even local traffic may experience limited flow at times due to the ongoing underground sewer construction. McLean Construction will coordinate with residential, trash, and mail services to minimize disruption during this time.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution when traveling in the area and to pay attention to all traffic control devices and signage. Safety is paramount as the construction work progresses.

Residents with questions or concerns about the project can reach out to the City of Temple Engineering Department at 254.298.5660 for more information and we recommend you stay informed and plan your travel routes accordingly to avoid any inconvenience during the construction period.

The Knob Creek Trunk Sewer Improvement Project was approved by the City Council of Temple, Texas, on April 21, 2022. This approval followed a comprehensive study conducted in 2017 that identified the need for upgrades and improvements to the existing wastewater collection system in the Knob Creek Basin.

Here are some key details about the Knob Creek Trunk Sewer construction project:

  • Project Scope: The project involves constructing a new trunk sewer line and making improvements to the existing wastewater collection system in the Knob Creek Basin. This includes extending the Knob Creek trunk main, building a new lift station, and installing a force main.
  • Easements: The project requires the acquisition of wastewater and temporary construction easements from several property owners. The City of Temple has already reached agreements with some property owners and continues to negotiate with others.
  • Funding: The project is funded through various accounts, including a Developer Participation Agreement with Short Term Lending GP, Inc., and other city funds.
  • Traffic Detours: A temporary detour is in place on South 22nd Street, with local traffic only allowed access. The detour is expected to last until February 2025.
