Highlights From our 54th Anniversary Celebration
Wednesday, November 13, 2024

Dear Friends,

I’m thrilled to share some special highlights from our recent 54th Anniversary Celebration—an evening filled with cherished memories, new friendships, and, of course, beautiful music! Being able to gather with so many familiar faces, along with some new ones, brought such joy to our team. Finally meeting some of our cherished Founders’ Club members was a highlight; putting faces to the names we know so well made the night feel even more special.

A heartfelt part of the evening was welcoming Central Texas College KNCT alumni Dr. Pettermann and Tom Welsh, two of our pioneering engineers. Dr. Pettermann, who spoke the very first words on KNCT back in 1970, and Tom Welsh, who “flipped the switch” that brought our station to life, reminded us all of the incredible history we share. As Dan Hull said with a smile, “Good to see the engineers that held everything together with duct tape and baling wire!”

The celebration opened with “The Softer Side,” a special tribute from our own Carl Rossi, who joined us in person. And Jay & Tammy provided the perfect soundtrack, performing timeless classics and even riffing along with our show hosts. They surprised us all with a lively rendition of Bill Hecke’s favorite tune, “I Don’t Look Good Naked Anymore” by The Snake Oil Willie Band—a definite crowd-pleaser! We were also delighted to meet Bill’s sister, Carly Bear, a loyal caller and friend on our Sunday Gathering request line. These connections truly made us feel like one big family.

Thank you, to everyone who joined us, thank you for helping make this an unforgettable night. Sharing laughter, music, and heartfelt stories with you all, under the dome of the Planetarium, warmed our hearts and reminded us why we do what we do.

As we look forward, we’re already excited about our 55th Anniversary next year, where we’ll continue to create more wonderful memories together. Here’s to another year of connection, community, and beautiful music with each of you by our side.

With warmest regards,
