“Our republic is only as strong as our democracy, and our democracy can’t be strong unless we all participate.”

Irene Andrews, League of Women Voters of Bell County

History

The League of Women Voters was founded in February of 1919, more than a year before the 19th Amendment was certified. Over one hundred years later, this organization continues to protect and expand voting rights and ensure everyone is represented. Through advocacy, education, and litigation at the local, state, and national levels, they empower voters and defend democracy.

Local

In our local area, the League of Women Voters of Bell County works to protect and expand our voting rights. This week, Irene Andrews stopped by to talk to Laury Sisko about ways you can get involved.

Monthly Meetings

The League of Women Voters hold monthly meetings the second Monday of every month at 5:30pm at the Christ Episcopal Church in Temple. You can also join this meeting via Zoom by contacting Chris Rosenburg via text or phone at (254) 931-4088.

National Voter Registration Day

National Voter Registration Day this year is on Tuesday, September 19th. And while citizens can still register to vote via mail in cards and by going to their local DMV, there will be 14 local areas open throughout the area that will register you on the spot. Each location will have Volunteer Deputy Registrars on site to get you ready for election day. One of those locations is right here on the campus of Central Texas College!
