Science and the Sea – Staying Alive

It can happen to even the strongest swimmers. You’re splashing in the surf, enjoying the waves and sunshine, when you notice that you’re farther from shore than you should be. And as you tread water for a moment, you realize you’re being pushed out to sea. You’re a victim of something that’s found along almost every beach: a rip current. Rip currents form as water pushed ashore by wind and waves moves back out to sea. It moves through cuts in sandbars or along other lines that form swift, narrow channels.

Science and the Sea airs every weekday at 9:30 am, 2:30 pm, and weekends at 11:30 am.

SoundBeat – Since Henry Ford Apologized To Me

This song, Since Henry Ford Apologized to Me, is a response to events surrounding Ford’s newspaper, the Dearborn Independent. One of the largest publications in the US in the 20’s, it printed many anti-semitic articles, “The International Jew” among them. That particular gem proffered that “International financiers are behind all war. They are what is called the international Jew: German Jews, French Jews, English Jews, American Jews.” Lawsuits stemming from such articles eventually lead to the paper’s demise. Ford would later issue a statement apologizing for claims.

SoundBeat airs every weekday at 10:30 am and 1:30pm.

Cindy Oser, Outreach and Reference Librarian for Central Texas College’s Oveta Culp Hobby Memorial Library, joins us every Tuesday at 6:15 pm to update us on upcoming events and services on campus. Each episode is also available to hear in the podcast section of our KNCT.org streaming website as well as the homepage for this site.

Beginning at 7 pm, KNCT presents part 3 of “Still Going On.” “Still Going On” is an award-winning, four-part, hour long award-winning radio documentary saluting William Grant Still and other African-American composers. Still, often referred to as “the Dean” of African American composers, composed more than 150 works including 5 symphonies and 8 operas.

Born in Mississippi, he grew up in Little Rock Arkansas, and attended Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, Ohio.
