Press Release from the City of Austin, special to MyKNCT.com

Saturday, May 7th from 2pm to 4pm

Descendants of Swedes buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Dick and Craig Peterson will share their family traditions of baking bread and carving wood figurines at the Chapel over pastries and coffee.

In Swedish culture, Fika is a daily cultural tradition in which people stop working and spend time with colleagues, coworkers and friends over coffee and sweets. Fika is about companionship, fellowship, chatting and socializing. After a long time apart –not gathering and spending time with neighbors, coworkers and friends, we welcome visitors to gather inside and outside the Chapel to share time and space, and a delicious bite, together.

All events are free, family friendly, and open to the public.

Learn about Austin Swedes buried in Oakwood Cemetery through the new exhibit “To Fika.”

RSVP to free event on Eventbrite.
