In this interview, I sat down with acclaimed National Geographic photographer David Liittschwager to discuss his fascination with the octopus, seahorse, and jellyfish.  While researchers continue to explore to find new sea life, they are in a battle with time as the planet loses species to human activity such as oil spills, global warning, plastic waste, and more.

Liittschwager has spent 12 years photographing octopuses, seahorses and jellyfish in more than 28 locations around the world.

David Liittschwager, the Richard Avedon of obscure but beautiful creatures, has shot more than a dozen assignments for National Geographic, primarily specializing in portraiture of natural history subjects. He has published or contributed to six books as well as Scientific American, Audubon, and other magazines. His photography has been exhibited at major museum including the American Museum of Natural History in New York City and the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C.
