Thanks to warnings by hurricane forecasters, thousands of people moved out of harm’s way before Tropical Storm Gabrielle hit Florida in 2001. But 14 sharks that researchers were tracking also moved out of the way. They may have used their own forecasting technique to detect the approaching danger — a change in pressure in the inner ear caused by the dropping air pressure.

Rockin’ in the Days of Confusion is a weekly 60-minute show that revisits the golden age of rock radio (roughly the years 1968-76). Emphasis is on longer album tracks from a variety of then-emerging rock sub-genres, including hard rock, heavy metal, country-rock, jazz-rock fusion, folk-rock, art-rock and more experimental tracks that defy easy classification. As is the case with our companion show, Stuck in the Psychedelic Era, Rockin’ in the Days of Confusion has no pre-recorded jingles or liners. The Hermit’s commentary is kept to a minimum, with more detailed track information available at thehermitrambles.blogspot.com.

In London, we’ll hear how low tide on the River Thames, often brings pieces of that city’s past to the surface. And an artist with a passion for public street art tells us how she helped to brighten up a couple of working-class neighborhoods in Rio de Janiero.

Relive the excitement of the cassette era mix tape! Each week is a different theme and a set of songs to match that theme.

I call my show the Mixtape because I choose a theme for each show and play a bunch of songs to match that theme. A lot like the mix tapes I used to create back in the cassette era. My tastes are pretty broad so you’ll get a chance to check out a variety of pop music styles. I may even have a guest co-host from time to time just to shake things up. If you want to hear something unique then this is the radio show for you. Just make sure to have your cassette cued up and ready to record!

7 pm to 10 pm

  • Sock Hop Saturday Night with Bruce Vasbinder
  • Episode 550
Take off your shoes and twist again like you did last summer as Bruce Vasbinder plays the hits of yesteryear from his never-ending stax of record wax.
