On this Day in History:

- 1865: Abraham Lincoln died after being shot the previous evening by John Wilkes Booth. Andrew Johnson became the 17th President of the United States.
- 1912: After hitting an iceberg the previous day (just 2½ hours earlier) the British passenger liner RMS Titanic sank in the North Atlantic.
- 1924: Rand McNally published its first road atlas.
- 1955: Ray Kroc opened his first franchise of McDonald’s restaurant in Des Plaines, Illinois.
- 1983: Flashdance, starring Jennifer Beals, opened in movie theaters throughout the U.S.
- 2001: After a truck trailer lost a wheel and crashed New South Wales, 24,000 bottles of beer sank into the Tweed River, near the town of Tweed Heads. Suddenly, local residents appeared in full scuba gear and started retrieving the beer until police warned they could be charged with theft.
- 2006: In Salt Lake City, Utah, police officers responding to a report of shots fired from a vehicle pulled up to talk to the suspects only to have them speed away. Well, perhaps speed isn’t the proper term. They goofballs tried to flee but couldn’t get their car above 35 mph. In their haste to get away, they had forgotten to release the parking brake.
- 2010: Volcanic ash from the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland lead to the closure of airspace over most of Europe.

Entertainment News:
NEW FAST & FURIOUS 9 TRAILER RELEASED _ Blockbuster action sequel Fast & Furious 9 was one of the first major releases to be pulled from the calendar as the pandemic swept across the globe, but it’s finally set to hit the big screen on June 21. A new and full trailer was released Wednesday. • VIDEO
… Under normal circumstances, the ninth installment would comfortably sail past a billion dollars at the box office, but there are no guarantees that business will have returned to normal by then. However, it’s still set to pull in a massive amount of money, especially when the lucrative Chinese market is back up and running. The previous Fast & Furious films each earned over $390 million in China alone.
DISNEY REBOOTING ALIEN WITHOUT ELLEN RIPLEY _ When Disney acquired the entire 20th Century Fox library, many fans wondered how the family-friendly film company would handle franchises like Alien, Predator and Die Hard. There’s already an Alien TV series in the works for Hulu with Ridley Scott signed on to co-produce. And a Predator reboot has also been announced.
… A source says Disney is now crafting an all-new Alien story that won’t connect to any of the previous installments in the franchise, which means Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley is out of the picture, despite what an insider claimed a month or so ago.
EXES KRISTIN CAVALLARI AND JAY CUTLER SUED BY CABLE GUY _ Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler — who split in April 2020 after 10 years of marriage — may be reunited by a lawsuit alleging one of their dogs bit a cable guy. Satellite and cable technician Nathan Beam has filed a lawsuit against Cavallari and Cutler over two allegedly unrestrained German Shepherds at their Tennessee home. Beam is suing the couple for $500,000. Beam claims that he completed an installation on the property in June 2020 and was preparing to leave when one German Shepherd — he believes its name is Kona — stood in front of the driver’s side door of his truck. He says he went to pick up something from the ground to distract the animal, and alleges it then bit him on his left thumb and fingernail. The suit says Cavallari’s assistant then came out, gave him a paper towel, and allegedly told him to leave the property. He insists he did nothing to provoke the canine. Neither Cavallari nor Cutler was home at the time.
… Beam believes the celebrity exes should be held responsible for failing to keep their dogs restrained during his visit. He also believes Cavallari is aware that her dogs can be aggressive, having previously referred to one as a “trained killer” on Instagram. He’s suing for damages, claiming he suffered physical injuries and disfigurement, as well as mental anguish and a loss in wages.
COVID-19 CANCELS CORRESPONDENTS’ DINNER _ For the second year in a row, the White House Correspondents’ Association has called off its annual dinner. COVID-19 was given as the reason, as it was last year. Hundreds of journalists and people in the reigning administrations usually attend the dressy event, which includes speeches, the awarding of scholarships, and the honoring of journalists’ work. The association will still announce award recipients for White House coverage.
KRISTEN STEWART REPORTEDLY IN TALKS WITH DISNEY TO PLAY SNOW WHITE _ Remember Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman franchise? The 2012 original was a hit, thanks to the combined star power of Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron. The 2016 prequel, The Huntsman: Winter’s War, failed to recapture its success, leading to the burgeoning fairy tale-verse coming to a premature end. But it’s possible that Stewart could be returning to the role of Snow White all these years later — only with a completely different studio.
… A source says Stewart has been in talks with Disney for an upcoming project and she’s apparently wanting to reclaim the character of Snow White. It’s possible Stewart could be attached to an already-rumor live-action remake of Disney’s classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
KARL URBAN REPORTEDLY IN THE RUNNING FOR WOLVERINE _ Who will be the next Wolverine? That’s one of the biggest questions surrounding the X-Men’s upcoming reboot within the Marvel Studios universe. With Hugh Jackman having sheathed his claws for good, rumors are The Boys actor Karl Urban could be handed the role. As Marvel lovers will know, Urban has already been part of the MCU — he played Hela’s henchman Skurge in Thor: Ragnarok. That was a one-and-done job for the actor, though, so the door is open for him to take on a much bigger role in the franchise.
