Programming Notes – July 5, 2020

KNCT Founders Club Member, Vive Les Arts Theater presents Matilda, The Musical from their stage located at 3401 South W. S. Young Drive in Killeen. With six showtimes from July 10th through the 19th, the theater is operated at a diminished seating capacity in order to keep groups separate.  For more information and to get your tickets to their final show of the 2019-2020 season, visit their website at VLAKilleen.org.

Matilda
Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers. She’s unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly lovable Miss Honey. Over the course of her first term at school, Matilda and Miss Honey have a profound effect on each other’s lives, as Miss Honey begins not only to recognize but also appreciate Matilda’s extraordinary personality.

Two bright planets accompany the Moon across the sky tonight. Brilliant Jupiter, the solar system’s largest planet, is close to the upper right of the Moon as they climb into good view around 10:30 or 11. And fainter Saturn — the second-largest planet — is about the same distance to the left of the Moon.

Life is often compared to a pathway. And, as most of us know by experience, that pathway is rarely smooth and straight. Rather, it takes us on a journey of peaks and valleys, twists and turns. Some of these are expected: Childhood passes into youth. Youthful life evolves into adulthood and, eventually, into life’s twilight. We know these changes are coming, and we can prepare ourselves to transition from one stage to another.

The waters around Antarctica are unlike any other waters in the world. They’re cold, deep, and rich with life. And they’re cut off from the other oceans at the surface by a powerful globe-circling current.

12:00 pm – Big Band Sunday with Charlie St. George

For over 30 years, KNCT has been the stage for six hours of the best Big Band music, including artists such as Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Count Basie and Ella Fitzgerald. In addition to all the great tunes, you all get updates from the Fort Hood USO at 1:30 pm and news from our World War II Roving Reporter at 2:30pm.

By 1954 Doris Day had risen to the rank of superstar. She made two movies that year — “Lucky Me” and “Young at Heart.” the following year, in “Love Me or Leave Me,” she starred as Ruth Etting in the fictionalized screen biography of this singing sensation of the 1920s.
