Heckeisms

  • “Eye on the sky.”
  • “Cirrus is near us.”
  • “Garden Variety…”
    • The term “garden variety” weather refers to ordinary, typical, or unremarkable weather conditions—the kind you might expect on a regular day without any severe or unusual events.
  • “Got some stratus comin’ at us.”
    • Stratus clouds are sliding in our direction—soft, gray, and stretching across the sky.
  • “Hail in the cell.”
  • “Loose eye on the sky.”
    • Keeping a casual watch on the weather conditions.
  • “No pets, no plants, no people.”
  • “Shallow pool or cool.”
    • A small area of cooler air or temperature—perhaps a brief reprieve from heat, like a pocket of cooler conditions in an otherwise hot environment.
  • “Sprinkles and tinkles.”
  • “Sure happy it’s Thursday.”
  • Today, we are gonna run with the sun.”

National Weather Service

Fort Worth/Dallas

A pleasant New Year’s Day in store today with mostly sunny skies and highs in the 60s to lower 70s. Tonight will feature increasing clouds, perhaps some sprinkles, and lows generally in the 50s.
A slight cool-down will occur late Friday as a weak cold front pushes southeast through the area. Warm weather can be expected Friday afternoon ahead of the front, especially across Central Texas where low 80s are forecast.
Above-normal temperatures are expected to continue through at least the first half of next week. However, rain chances will finally appear late Wednesday as an upper-level disturbance and cold front arrive.

Austin/San Antonio

Expect abundant sunshine today with just some thin high level clouds. Winds will be from the south or southwest at 5 to 10 mph. Temperatures will warm to above normal with highs from 70 to 78.
2026 rings in with great weather! Today is mostly clear with daytime highs from the mid 60s to near 70 degrees. Wispy high clouds tonight won’t obscure the fireworks. It’s cool at midnight in the mid to upper 40s. New Year’s Day will be breezy and mostly sunny to partly cloudy with highs warming into the low to mid 70s.
Our brief streak of cooler days to end 2025 will soon come to an end. Warm weather is on the way, and South-Central Texas is likely to have an unseasonably warm start to January 2026. Expect afternoon highs generally in the 70s and 80s to start the month.
Temperatures will warm back to above normal today, and will be capable of breaking daily records on Friday. The first full week of January will continue to be warm with little or no chance of rainfall.
