The 13th Annual Youth Career Fest filled the Palmer Events Center with momentum and possibility as thousands of Austin‑area students explored the careers shaping the region’s future. Hosted by Austin Economic Development and the Austin Youth Council, the event brought together 3,000 students and educators with 126 employers, educators, and community partners representing industries from construction and healthcare to technology, creative fields, public service, and skilled trades .

City and County leaders opened the day with a press conference highlighting Austin’s commitment to workforce development and early career exposure. For many students, the festival offered a first chance to speak directly with professionals, ask questions, and see how their interests connect to real opportunities in their own community.

Anthony Segura, Deputy Director of Austin Economic Development, emphasized the importance of that exposure. “When young people can see the many paths available to them and meet the people doing this work every day, it changes how they think about their future,” he said. “The Youth Career Fest helps students connect their interests to real opportunities right here in Austin” .

Hands‑on demonstrations, interactive activities, and one‑on‑one conversations kept the energy high throughout the day. Since its launch in 2013, the Youth Career Fest has grown into one of Central Texas’s largest youth‑focused career exploration events, reflecting the city’s long‑term investment in preparing the next generation for economic opportunity.

Segura noted the impact as the event wrapped up: “Students left with new ideas, new connections, and a clearer sense of what is possible for their future” .

The event’s success is rooted in collaboration among schools, employers, nonprofits, and community partners who share a commitment to supporting Austin’s youth and strengthening the region’s future workforce.
