Another surge of arctic air is set to sweep across North and Central Texas tonight, delivering some of the coldest wind chills of the season. Temperatures will tumble quickly into the teens and 20s after sunset, and the biting north wind will make it feel even colder—near 0 degrees along the Red River and in the lower teens across Central Texas. Anyone who must be outdoors, especially Saturday morning, should dress in warm, layered clothing and limit exposure as much as possible.

Today begins breezy and cold, and even with sunshine, most communities will struggle to climb out of the 30s. Light winds and mostly clear skies tonight will allow temperatures to plunge once again into the teens and 20s. A shift to southerly winds on Sunday will help break the cold grip, nudging highs back into the 40s and 50s.

Looking ahead, a quieter and more seasonable pattern settles in next week. Sunshine dominates much of the period, with temperatures hovering near average. A weak mid‑week disturbance will bring thicker clouds and a 20–30% chance of rain east of the I‑35 corridor Tuesday into Tuesday night. A brief cool-down follows on Wednesday before a stronger warmup pushes highs into the 60s and 70s by late week.

Farther south, the Austin and San Antonio regions will also feel the push of colder air. North winds of 10–15 mph, gusting to 25 mph early today, will usher in a sharp drop in temperatures. Highs across Central Texas will only reach the lower 40s, while the Rio Grande Plains—seeing the front later—will manage mid‑50s before cooling down. Another frontal wave arrives this morning, reinforcing the chill and setting up a hard freeze tonight. A gradual warming trend begins late Sunday and continues into Tuesday, with low rain chances returning Tuesday into Wednesday for eastern counties. The end of the week looks mostly dry and seasonably cool.

A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect for areas along and north of I‑10/U.S. Highway 90 from 3 AM to 10 AM Saturday. While actual lows will range from 20 to 30 degrees, wind chills will make it feel much colder—between 13 and 20 degrees overnight. As always during these cold snaps, remember to Protect the 4 Ps: People, Pets, Plants, and Pipes.

Stay warm, stay aware, and take care of one another as this next round of arctic air settles in.
