With another round of cold weather expected to settle over the region, the City of Killeen will open a warming center tonight to ensure residents have a safe place to stay warm through the weekend.

The center will open tonight at 8 p.m. and remain available through 10 a.m. Monday, February 2nd. Due to improving weather conditions and a decrease in demand, the city will operate one location for this activation: Friends in Crisis at 412 East Sprott Street.

Under city policy, warming centers are activated whenever temperatures or wind chill values are forecast to reach 32 degrees or below. The facility is open to all community members, including individuals without heat or those experiencing power outages.

City officials encourage residents to use caution during the cold stretch and to check on neighbors who may need assistance. Those interested in donating supplies to support warming center operations may contact the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management at the email provided by the city.

The warming center will remain open throughout the coldest period of the weekend, offering a safe, warm environment for anyone in need.
