Midway ISD has begun rolling out projects funded through its 2025 Bond Program, starting with the purchase of new school buses to strengthen student transportation across the district.

In the first phase, the district ordered 14 of the 30 buses approved in the bond package. The initial delivery—four new special education buses—arrived on January 9, 2026. The remaining buses, including 10 general‑route models, will be delivered later.

The four special education buses represent about $636,000 of the roughly $6 million allocated for new buses. Each vehicle includes upgraded safety and accessibility features intended to better support students and drivers.

“The Bond 2025 program allows us to make strategic investments in areas that directly support students and daily operations,” said Ken Wolf, Director of Operations. He noted that replacing aging buses is essential for maintaining safe, reliable transportation while managing long‑term operating costs.

The new buses include several modern safety enhancements, such as adaptive cruise control, illuminated stop arms and rear stop signs for improved visibility, and updated interior layouts designed to increase comfort and functionality.

“These buses were designed with both safety and comfort in mind,” said Carolina Pecina, Coordinator of Transportation. She added that the improvements support driver visibility and ergonomics while offering a smoother ride for students, particularly those with specialized transportation needs.

The district purchased the buses through Longhorn Bus Sales, part of Holt Truck Centers.

Transportation upgrades are one component of the broader 2025 Bond Program, which also funds facility improvements, safety enhancements, and equipment replacements. Midway ISD will continue providing updates as additional projects move through planning, bidding, and implementation stages.
