The U.S. Mint has released a series of commemorative coin designs marking the nation’s 250th birthday. The special‑edition dime, quarter, and half‑dollar—each carrying dual dates reading “1776 ~ 2026”—will begin circulating this week and will be available for one year only.

The quarter will feature five rotating designs recognizing key moments and documents in American history: the Mayflower Compact, the Revolutionary War, the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the Gettysburg Address. These themes replace earlier concepts that had highlighted figures such as Frederick Douglass, Ruby Bridges, and the women’s suffrage movement.

The redesigned dime depicts Lady Liberty with “the winds of revolution” flowing through her hair and a liberty cap decorated with stars and stripes. The half‑dollar features an image of the Statue of Liberty symbolically passing the torch to a new generation.

The commemorative series was authorized under the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020. Acting Mint Director Kristie McNally said the new designs aim to reflect “America’s journey toward a ‘more perfect union.’”
