On Tuesday evening, the Copperas Cove ISD Board of Trustees approved several measures aimed at continuing repairs to Williams/Ledger Elementary, which sustained heavy damage from summer rains.

During its regular November meeting, the board authorized the purchase of 96 new HVAC units, new servers and speakers, and cabling infrastructure. These upgrades are intended to restore the campus and support a modern learning environment once students return. Superintendent Dr. Brent Hawkins noted that the HVAC units replace systems that had reached the end of their life cycles, while the new equipment will replace items damaged in the flood.

The district continues to work with its insurance provider, the Texas Association of School Board’s Risk Management Fund, following the board’s emergency declaration in August. Repairs remain on track for the campus to reopen at the start of the 2026–27 school year.

Trustees also approved a contract with New Direction Solutions to provide Speech Language Pathologist Assistant services. This step is designed to ensure continuity of support for students requiring speech services until a permanent hire is made. Dr. Hawkins acknowledged statewide challenges in staffing special education positions and emphasized the importance of maintaining services for students.

In addition, the board approved the submission of 91 teachers for Teacher Incentive Allotment designations. The state will review the data validation process to determine approval of 24 recognized, 49 exemplary, and 18 master designations. Approved designations will be valid for five years and are expected to be awarded in spring 2026.

The Board of Trustees will next meet for a training session on December 2, followed by its December workshop on December 8 and its regular meeting on December 15. Both sessions will begin at 6 p.m. in the Board Room at the District Service & Training Center on South Main Street.
