The holiday season is fast approaching, and Texas State Parks are ready to help families and visitors celebrate. From Thanksgiving weekend through Christmas, parks across the state will host festive events, offering everything from fun runs to tree lightings, guided hikes, and traditional celebrations.

To make the most of the season, visitors are encouraged to check the Holidays in the Parks page and the Calendar of Events for a full list of activities. Parks often fill quickly during the holidays, so reservations for day passes and overnight stays should be made in advance.

Austin & San Antonio Area

Dallas/Fort Worth Area

  • Walk Off the Stuffing – Ray Roberts Lake, Johnson Branch Unit, Nov. 28. Annual hike to balance out holiday indulgence.
  • Christmas in the Park 2025 – Lake Whitney State Park, Dec. 20. Campsite decorating contest, lights, and community celebration.
  • Cowboy Christmas – Cleburne State Park, Dec. 20. Cowboy songs, poetry, and festive campground displays.

Houston & Gulf Coast Area

  • Guided Turkey Hike – Galveston Island State Park, Nov. 27. Search for signs of wild turkeys in the park.
  • Christmas Party at Ravens Lodge – Huntsville State Park, Dec. 6. Holiday decorations, snacks, and s’mores at the historic lodge.
  • Christmas in the Park – Goose Island State Park, Dec. 13. Lights, activities, and free camping for decorated campsites.

West Texas & Panhandle Area

  • Turkey Hunt and Craft – Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Nov. 22. Family-friendly scavenger hunt and craft activity.
  • Posada – Fort Leaton State Historic Site, Dec. 13. Traditional Mexican Christmas celebration with skits and songs.
  • Holly Days in the Park – San Angelo State Park, Dec. 13. Drive-through light tour and photos with special guests.

Tyler & East Texas Area

  • Gobble Wobble! – Purtis Creek State Park, Nov. 28. Ranger-led walk to work off Thanksgiving dinner.
  • Christmas in the Park – Atlanta State Park, Dec. 12. Holiday wonderland with Santa in the Pineywoods.
  • Christmas in the Park – Daingerfield State Park, Dec. 17–20. Drive-through light display and meet Santa on select nights.
