Central Texas is basking in unseasonably warm sunshine this weekend, but a major shift is on the horizon.
Saturday morning begins with patches of low clouds and fog, but skies will quickly clear to reveal another bright, breezy afternoon. Temperatures will climb into the mid-80s, with a few spots nudging toward 90. Southerly winds gust at times, adding a lively feel to the day. Sunday promises a near repeat: partly cloudy skies, highs in the 80s, and steady south-southwest breezes.

This stretch of warmth is remarkable for mid-November, with record highs possible Sunday through Tuesday. KNCT Meteorologist Bill Hecke noted, “Our Saturday begins with crisp, refreshing air and mostly clear skies… Afternoon highs climb into the mid-80s, and a few warmer spots may flirt with the upper 80s.”
The rain-free streak won’t last. By Wednesday, an approaching storm system will bring widespread showers and thunderstorms to the region, continuing into Friday. Localized heavy rainfall is possible, though exact totals and the severity of storms remain uncertain. Forecasters urge residents to stay updated as the week progresses, with cooler—but still above-average—temperatures expected once the system passes.
While Central Texas enjoys warmth, other regions face dramatic weather shifts:
- An atmospheric river is drenching Southern and Central California, with flash floods and debris flows threatening vulnerable areas. The Weather Prediction Center has issued a Moderate Risk for excessive rainfall, with storm totals exceeding six inches in some locations.
- A strengthening low over the Great Lakes is delivering a wintry mix to northern New York and New England. Several inches of snow are likely in higher elevations, with lake-effect snow showers developing behind the system.
- Record-breaking warmth continues, with highs 20 degrees above normal in places. The Southern Plains will hold onto this heat into early next week, even as a cold front cools the Midwest and Northeast.
For Central Texas listeners, the message is clear: enjoy the warmth while it lasts, but prepare for a midweek pattern change. KNCT will continue to provide hourly updates, keeping you informed as showers and storms approach.
